Microsoft has recently announced a change in their release plans for Windows 11 23H2. Originally scheduled for September 26th, the second major feature update for Windows 11 will now be released in the fourth quarter. However, Microsoft will still provide an AI update for version 22H2 in September, which includes exciting new features powered by artificial intelligence.
AI Update Still Available for Windows 11 22H2
Many PC users have been eagerly anticipating the 2023 Windows 11 update, as it promises numerous improvements and innovations. One of the highly anticipated features was Windows Copilot, powered by artificial intelligence, which was expected to be included in the 23H2 update. However, Microsoft has decided to roll out the AI features, along with new versions of Paint, Windows Photos, Snipping Tool, Clipchamp, Notepad, and Outlook, as a separate update for the current version, 22H2.
Over 150 New Features in the AI Update
According to Microsoft’s recent blog post, the AI update for Windows 11 22H2 will bring over 150 new features to the operating system. Users will have the option to install this update starting from September 26th. Some of the exciting additions include Windows Copilot, which will assist users with various tasks, as well as enhancements to Windows Backup, Paint, Windows Photos, Snipping Tool, Clipchamp, Notepad, and Outlook.
To install the AI update, users will need to manually initiate the update in the Windows Update settings, under Advanced Options and Optional Updates. Once the 23H2 update is released, the new AI features will be automatically distributed to users who haven’t installed the optional update.
Windows 11 23H2: Expected Release in October
Despite the delay in the 23H2 update, Microsoft had already announced their plans to release it in the fourth quarter of this year. The next Windows system update, scheduled for October 10, 2023, is a possible date for the release. Users who haven’t installed the AI update by then can expect to have Copilot and other AI features installed, including the new Windows Backup feature.
